Cliff Barber Shop, Reaching out to our Community!

“To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”

The above statement is the mission of The Boys and Girls Clubs. Here at Cliff Barber Shop, we are also on a mission to empower the community in which we serve. One way that we are doing this is by partnering with The Boys and Girls Club of Roane County(BGCRC).
On August 7th 2018, our shop organized a free haircut event where we offered cuts to the members of the club. The staff and all the kids who participated were amazing! As soon as we arrived they immediately offered a helping hand. I had my car loaded down, complete with barber chair, mirror, and all the tools I needed for the day, so the help was very much appreciated!
Leona Long, a long time employee of the club, along side her daughter Jensen, were preparing a nacho lunch for all the kiddos, and we offered them yoo-hoos and dum dums.(Atradition here at Cliff, going back to our Michigan roots over 70 years ago.)
After lunch the fun began! Kids were playing basketball, video games, dancing, and playing with each other as if they were all one big happy family. The energy was infectious and we ate it up! Rocking out some killer cuts and bonding with the  youth in our own back yard. I even picked up a basketball myself, which I hadn't done since high school. Making me feel just like a kid again.(Stillgot it though! … jk)
Danny Whitt, the director of the club, and Nathan Wray, program coordinator at the Roane County Anti-Drug Coalition, are the reason any of this happened. When Nathan came into our shop for a cut I thought we needed to join forces. After meeting with Danny and getting all the details worked out about the event, I knew it was going to be the beginning of a long friendship with the BGCRC.
So thanks to everyone who made it possible for us to go volunteer in our beautiful county! Including our awesome staff who picked up the slack so that myself, Katy Simmons, and our owner, Zac Gronda, could go during business hours. Y'all are the real MVP’s!
We can't wait for what's next for Cliff Kids and Cliff Cares, and we hope that y'all follow us on our journey!
